SAA's new West Africa HUB
SAA has signed an MoU with Ghanaian-based carrier, Africa World Airlines (AWA) in an effort to strengthen connections in West Africa that will make Accra’s Kotoka International Airport the SA national carrier’s West African hub.
The two airlines currently operate an interline agreement, and plans are under way to establish a codeshare, creating seamless travel for AWA passengers connecting to SAA’s Johannesburg-Accra-Washington route. This route is currently operated four times a week, with a fifth flight being added in April.
AWA flies to eight destinations in West Africa, including four Ghanaian destinations, Lagos and Abuja (Nigeria), Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Monrovia (Liberia). The airline also has plans to launch a route to Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire later this year.
