Day 1

Meet your Travel Director and small group of travel companions this morning in Umhlanga before heading to the northern reaches of South Africa's 'garden province'. We'll follow the Dolphin Coast all the way to St. Lucia, our first stop of the day. Here we'll board a cruise and spend a serene couple of hours gliding along the waterways of one of the world's most naturally scenic estuarine lake systems. Keep an eye out for St. Lucia's resident hippos and crocodiles, as well as its abundant birdlife. Later, we'll check in at our accommodation on the outskirts of South Africa's oldest game reserve, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park.

Day 2

Rise early this morning and board your open safari vehicle for a game drive in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve. Uncover the secrets of KwaZulu-Natal's bushveld, including the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo), Little 5 (elephant shrew, ant lion, rhinoceros beetle, buffalo weaver and leopard tortoise) and everything in between! We'll round off your safari experience with a delicious and memorable bush breakfast, before returning to our hotel. This afternoon we'll show our support for a local family-owned business - Ilala Weavers. During our visit we'll learn first-hand how traditional and intricate Zulu beadwork is fashioned into baskets, wire bowls and jewellery. You'll be tempted to leave with a beautiful memento of your KZN adventure.

First up is the battle site of Isandlwana, where your guide will share the history and interesting facts behind this epic battle between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom. After a picnic lunch we'll continue to the Rorke's Drift battle site, where approximately 150 British soldiers and colonial troops fought for 11 hours to hold off an attack from approximately 4,000 Zulu warriors.

As we leave the Battlefields behind, we have one final historical port of call. We'll stop to explore the town of Ladysmith, the site of the Battle of Ladysmith and a 118-day siege in the Second Boer War. This afternoon we'll arrive at our resort in the Northern Drakensberg.
