Home Affairs Elaborates On Priority Services Offered During Adjusted Alert Level 3 Of Lockdown

Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi on 12 January held a media briefing, elaborating on Home Affairs priority services to be offered during COVID-19 adjusted alert level 3 of lockdown.

The Minister expanded on the regulations announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 11 January, which included the closing of the country‚Äôs 20 land borders, and added that Home Affairs would suspend the following services until further notice:

  • Applications of Smart ID Cards, except for matriculants
  • Applications for passports, except for people who fall in the categories permitted to travel in the amended Disaster Management Act Regulations
  • Marriage services such as solemnisation and registration.

Motsoaledi said this was based on a statistical analysis of who visited home affairs offices.
