Things to do in Port Alfred  

  • A great way to get to know the Port Alfred CBD is to take a leisurely stroll around town. Meander down Van der Riet Street for a truly local shopping experience: snazzy clothing, unusual gifts, fresh flowers, antiques, bric-a-brac, deli delights, coffee, cake, eateries, home decor, rugs, upholstery, professionals and a whole lot more.    Explore the antique and junk shops around town especially at Wharf Street.
  • Obtain a temporary fishing licence from the Post Office and catch some fish off the pier or river banks.
  • Take a swim at Kelly's Beach or Kariega Beach in Kenton ( both Blue Flag Beaches ) or wade in the rock pools and take a stroll along our endless, pristine beaches,
  • Visit Port Alfred's indoor heated pool or feel free to swim at the pool at the Halyards Hotel.
  • Pay a visit to the Farmer's Market at Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow Nursery, Main Road in Bathurst (every Sunday 09:00-12:30)
  • Play tennis at the municipal tennis courts behind the Civic Centre or enjoy a game of Bowls at one of the Bowling Clubs.
  • Play golf at the famous Royal Port Alfred course.
  • Enjoy a day of birding in the area with Tim Cockcroft.    
  • Take the Adrenalin Cruise out to sea on a huge rubber dingy - Min 6 persons.   Fishing Charters can also be enjoyed out to sea.
  • Take a Barge Cruise on the Kowie River.  Various operators.   Or hire a Houseboat for a couple of nights an explore the Kowie River.
  • Go dune boarding on the our huge sand dunes on our beaches -hire from Outdoor Focus.

  • Go shopping. Visit Restaurants. See a movie at the Cinema  or play some Mini Golf at the Rosehill Mall about 3 km out of town towards Port Elizabeth.
